From: Insurance Surveyor of the French Fishing Vessel Saint Antoine de Padoue II
Happy New Year to all your team!
I am acting as the insurance surveyor of the French trawler SAINT ANTOINE DE PADOUE II, which sank in the Channel near Le Havre last Saturday. Your vessel BOMAR CERES actively participated in the rescue operation of the crew. After being rescued by the Navy helicopter, the three fishermen were transported to a hospital for examination, and they are now safe and back home.
The rescued fishermen and the owner of the vessel wish to extend warm thanks to the crew of your vessel for their actions.
The Fécamp fishing vessel, the St. Anthony of Padua, triggered its distress beacon around 17:45 yesterday (Saturday, January 3, 2015). The three fishermen were found on board their life raft a few nautical miles off the coast of Courseules-sur-Mer.
At the time of the accident, the trawler was fishing when its trawl hooked and capsized the ship.
After the distress beacon was activated, the Maltese tanker Bomar Ceres, located in the vicinity, reported seeing the last fragments of a distress flare two nautical miles from its position. The ship was directed by CROSS Jobourg, which also dispatched a Navy helicopter for the fishermen's rescue.
Two other fishing vessels, the Penelope and the Telemaque 1, also in the area, offered their support and were diverted to the scene of the operation.
With the rescue raft from Bomar Ceres, the three fishermen were soon safely on board the tanker.
After confirmation of the crew's number, the fishermen were airlifted and transported to Monod Hospital in Le Havre. Notice to Mariners was issued by the maritime prefecture to signal the presence of the wreck.
