The 10-year-old chemical/oil tanker Atlantis Almeria (4,263 GT, IMO 2) recently underwent her second Class Special Survey Period with RINA in Tuzla, Istanbul, under our technical management.
As part of the survey, we performed routine maintenance on the cargo tanks, including repairs, painting, and inspections for acceptance by RINA. Additionally, major overhauls were completed on the main engine, diesel generators, boilers, separators, anchor windlass, mooring winches, and cargo plant systems, all while the cargo tanks received spot repairs with Marineline coating.
The final stage involved drydocking the vessel to remove the controllable pitch propeller and rudder for measurements required by the special survey. We also reapplied Hempel Hempaguard X7 antifouling paint during this time. Notably, this marks the third consecutive application of X7 on a silicone ship by our company.
Hempel Hempaguard X7 offers a smooth, low-friction surface that significantly reduces biofouling. This translates to potential fuel savings and a possible speed increase of approximately one nautical mile per hour compared to the pre-drydock period. The paint is particularly suitable for vessels with long idle times or operating in warm waters.
Based on successful sea trials and comparisons with the last two X7-painted vessels (Antibes 5800 dwt and Andaman 6400 dwt) completed last year, the Atlantis Almeria might even surpass its new-building stage speed.
