The International Safety Management Code (ISM) requires shipping companies to have procedures for conducting both internal and external audits. These audits ensure that the ship, as well as the shore organization, are following the documented Safety Management System (SMS).
Internal SMS audits are crucial for measuring the effectiveness of a company's safety system. They hold potentially greater importance than external audits because internal findings directly impact the company's operations.
On September 20, 2021, our esteemed DPA (Designated Person Ashore) and HSEQ (Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality) Manager, Mr. Gökhan Pehlivan, conducted a successful internal audit onboard the Atlantis Armona at the Port of Rotterdam.
The audit covered a wide range of topics, from engine room operations and deck issues to cargo handling procedures, crew member responsibilities, legal requirements, and emergency preparedness.
Following the successful audit, Mr. Pehlivan enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by the ship's cook, fostering camaraderie with the crew. We wish our crew fair winds, calm seas, and continued success in safe operations throughout their contractual period.
